                                                        Picture
St. Margaret’s Bay is home to stunning coastal scenery, white sand beaches, tiny fishing villages, islands, and fantastic bike riding!  All this is just a 30 minute drive from downtown Halifax.

Settlement of "The Bay" started in the 18th century, and descendants of the original settlers continue to live there today.

The rail-trail follows the route of the original railway line that served the Bay's communities, as well as its waterfront hotels that served as resorts for Haligonians in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Lumbering and sawmills were common, of which there is still visible evidence today. Ingramport Bay was a major base for tall ships that carried timber to distant countries.

This tour has two distinct options:

Option 1 - For those wishing a leisurely ride that can be tailored to ½ day, full day or even just a couple of hours, the Rails to Trails route is highly recommended.  The Rail trip is along a former rail bed turned bike path that is void of any cars or hills and skirts the shores of the Bay and follows rich Nova Scotia woodlands.  We’ll make stops at look offs, ride through coastal villages and visit beautiful beaches.

Option 2 - For groups desiring a more challenging ride, the Aspotogan Peninsula is a trip not to be missed when visiting Nova Scotia.  For avid riders, it just doesn’t get more picturesque than this.  The quiet road travels through countless fishing villages, past incredible look-offs and numerous beaches.  This trip can only be completed as a day long activity.
