This hub-based event has several wilderness tasks set up throughout a wooded area that teams must navigate to complete each task.  Tasks include: shelter construction, a camera scavenger hunt, geocaching, distance calculating with map and compass, med-evac scenario, slack-lining and much more.  This event is fun and tiring with a strong emphasis on teamwork, leadership and communication.  Locations that work well are Shubie Park, Sir Sanford Fleming Park and Victoria Park in Truro.

Grade 7 - University level, full day or overnight. 15-45 students.

What would you do if you were lost in the woods?  In this program we teach youth the necessary skills to survive if lost in a wilderness area.  This event builds strong bonds and self-confidence and youth gain a true appreciation for nature.  We cover fire building, shelter construction, navigation, being prepared, signalling for help, equipment and tools, and much more.  

Grade 9 and up, 25-45 Students, 3 days - 2 nights.

This 3 day youth expedition is an incredible way to experience the world's highest tides and the waterfalls of the Cobequid Mountains.  From our home base at Gitten's Lodge, Kattuk will provide programming, guided hikes safety equipment, firewood and even live music.  Schools / student groups are responsible for their own transportation, chaperones and food.  Gitten's Lodge has separate sided bunks for 28 in total,  a full self-serve kitchen, hiking trails, field, fire pit, benches and indoor meeting / eating area. For groups larger than 28 Kattuk Expeditions will provide tents and camp mats.

Let our highly skilled wilderness guides take your class on a guided nature hike through local wooded areas or along the rugged coastline surrounding Halifax, such as: Duncan's Cove, Peggy's Cove, Terrence Bay or the Blue Mountain wilderness area.  We'll cover plant life, geography, geology, winds, waves, river currents and tides. Depending on the location and time of year, we may make a fire and cook up some s'mores! 

Grade 7+, Overnight.

Learning how to camp properly makes for better/safer experiences and continued enthusiasm with a stronger connection to nature.  Students will learn how to select a camp site, set up a tent properly, store food, and use a camp stove, water filter, sleeping pad and bag.  Students will gain an appreciation of the overall best practices when staying overnight in the woods or campgrounds; and the importance of leaving as little trace of their visit as possible.

Grade 5 and up, 15 - 80 participants, up to 3 hours.

Geocaching is an activity that is suitable for anyone from 9 to 90 years. In this event, we organize the members into teams and teach them how to use a handheld GPS and to seek out and find geocaches.  We plant up to 20 of our own in a specific area and have teams find as many as possible in the time allowed. Popular areas for this event are Point Pleasant Park, Sir Sanford Fleming Park, Shubie Park, and Victoria Park in Truro.
