Discover Cape Breton from the air and along its backcountry roads. Depart Halifax by helicopter, taking in sweeping views of coastline, forests and Highlands before landing at Big Intervale, deep in the Margaree River Valley.
This remote setting is difficult to reach by regular vehicle. Your local guides make their way in by Jeep to meet the helicopter, ready to lead you into a quieter side of Cape Breton.
Explore rugged backcountry routes, stop at beautiful spots along the river and take in expansive views from scenic lookouts, including Cape Clear. Along the way, your guides share their knowledge and connections to the area, with time for photographs, lunch and enjoying the surroundings.
The return helicopter flight brings a final perspective on the landscapes you have explored—completing a memorable day above and within Cape Breton’s wild country.

Your day
From Halifax to the heart of the valley.
Depart downtown Halifax.
Begin at the Halifax airport heliport for check-in, orientation and a helicopter safety briefing.
Travel by helicopter via Port Hawkesbury Airport, following the coastline past Inverness before turning inland and flying down the Margaree River Valley.
Touch down in the remote valley and meet your local Jeep guides.
Follow backcountry routes through the Margaree Valley, pausing at river spots and scenic lookouts, including Cape Clear.
Enjoy an included lunch and time to relax amid the surroundings.
Rejoin the helicopter for your journey back to Halifax via Port Hawkesbury.
The order of stops and daily schedule vary with weather and backcountry conditions. Meeting times and final arrangements are confirmed before departure.

Bring layered clothing, comfortable outdoor footwear, a water bottle, sun protection and your camera. Highland conditions can be cooler and windier than in Halifax.
Activity and preparation
Ready for the backcountry.
The Jeep portion travels rough backcountry roads. Guests should be comfortable with uneven vehicle travel, getting into and out of the helicopter and Jeep, and walking on uneven ground at stops.

Payment, cancellations & travel insurance.
Final payment is due 90 days before departure. Please review these terms before booking.
Guest cancellations
More than 90 days before departure: Payments are refundable less an administration fee equal to 5% of the total tour price.
90 days or fewer before departure: Your booking is non-refundable.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended
Unexpected illness, personal circumstances or travel disruption can prevent you from joining your trip. Because bookings are non-refundable within 90 days of departure, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that includes trip-cancellation coverage.
Check that your policy covers your tour, travel arrangements and circumstances, including applicable exclusions and purchase deadlines. Insurance is purchased separately; reimbursement depends on your insurer’s policy.
If Kattuk cancels
If Kattuk Expeditions cancels the tour due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, your tour payments will be refunded in full.
This tour refund does not cover separately booked flights, accommodation or other travel expenses.
